I had a telephone installed at my new residence at the end of last month and I even got the broad on within no time. But some how or other things are not working out. The telephone line has been cut off since last saturday that is 17th of july 2010 and the connection is not going to be restored till NEXT WEEK.

what I am told is that the telphone exchange in this area is being shifted and most of the telephones have been restored to full service after the initial “shifting pains”. Now there are just sixty lines only that are effected and as usual mine is one of them. The work is to be done manually – the reconnecting of the cut cables. ( Then cant you put more men on the job ? If one man can do it in ten days, ten men can do it one day! And even then you can connect jyothi's line last of all. It is very much possible but some one has to take an interest in things ! Who is bothered ?)

Even earlier there were sudden abrupt disruption of the line going dead for long durations ( at those times it used to recover after a few hours ) and the excuse was that it is the “shifting pains” that I am experiencing.

After finding things so unreliable I in the hope of communicating with the outside world some how or other from this remote locale had purchased a high speed wireless internet connection from reliance netconnect; it proved to be a timely move and a real boon. They have voice and sms facility on this usb modem and the internet connection is definitely better than any dial up service.

So when my telephone got disrupted I started making calls from the modem – only snag here is that one can make phone calls only when the computer is on. And that way my little jyopda, a netbook one of the earliest versions, came in very handy.

But where is the point lf the fellow is still remaining connected even when the telephone line is disrupted? The jyoPda was compromised within no time and when I was to have received a few very important calls I was left without any telephone, neither landline or the modem one !

By next morning I had set up my win xp desk top which I had not assembled after my shifting to this place ( I had the win 98 system which I can set up from scratch in a jiffy and I was using it to access the net immediately on getting the broad on, that is before the line went dead - “ shifting”. ) and normalcy was restored – I started making calls from the desk top and had a skeletal internet service like sending mail and all. One of the biggest success was sending a representation to the SIC and getting a response from them postponing a hearing by e-mail – great!

Well; coming back to what happened to jyopda. The current problem was that once I start the netbook it will boot up and after the os starts it will suddenly get switched off . I could not get the system going even after I tried all the tricks in my armoury . ( All sorts of things happen on my computer systems and I had many a time got around the problems on my own. Like for example one of the happenings was that the system will suddenly shut down and reboot on its own and then will get stuck - the hdd with the operating system would have disappeared. What I later on used to do in such eventuality was remove the power cable, and many a time disconnect the hdds and even cd drives and remove the button cell of the motherboard and insert it with the poles reversed that way the short circuting the terminals and leave it for half an hour or so like that and then when I boot up again the hdd would have reappeared. I feel that a similar trick on the jyopda could have recovered all the more so as the problem with the jyopda also proved to be a transient phenomenon. The service people told me the next day that the machine was no more showing the problem. luckily I had shown it to one of their staff before I had handed it over to them for otherwise it would have been taken as another evidence of my insanity by the “intelligentsia”.

I could not have tried my tricks on the jyopda for I had never opened a laptop of any sort before and even the staff said ( in another context ) that this sort of short circuiting the mainboard battery is not an easy thing in the case of main board of the laptops.

Well I got the thing serviced and the service charges came to five hundred INR only.

The key pad had some problems which was not in itself serious for the time being but in case I had to change it in the near future I would have to pay service charges again for changing the kb. So I decided to get the keyboard changed and a new key pad costs 1800 INR and so I dolled out a total of 2300 INR and the price of a similar machine now a days is around 11000 or so.

Interestingly a new hardware has been added to the machine. The boot choice, boot from network, showed some device which was not there before. I pointed it out to the service people and on my insistence they checked up a similar machine with one of their customers and what I said was true – this particular hardware was not being shown on an identical machine!

The young man some how or other made the thing disappear ( “dont ask me how I did it “ that is what he told me ). But it is a physical thing and it is very much there on jyoPda, a present from you know who!

My samtron 40Bn monitor which has been with me since the late nineties and never gave me a problem ( unlike the philips 107 E which I purchased some time in the mid noughties and had konked off time and again ) for once refused to get switched on a couple of weeks back. The problem most likely is some flimsy electrical thing. It is not possible to get a technician over here to look it up and so I have taken it and delivered it to their place. The fellow says he will get it ready by monday that is again NEXT WEEK.

My enfield motorbike's clutch needs looking up and I had taken it to a mechanic near the locality where I am staying – the fellow is good at his job. He said he will look it up but can do that only after monday , that is NEXT WEEK.

By the way I had gone today to the city by bus to collect the jyopda after repair. And over and above the members of the pimp service stationed near the service people's office I had a pimp traveling in the bus in the front seat in front of the women's seat with the conductors ( there are more than one in the private buses in this locality) of the bus paying obeisance to the member of the indian "intelligentsia".

mr. Pimp, Nothing is going to happen NEXT WEEK or any other week for that matter.

The routine will continue – the despicable wretches trailing with their tails between the legs and never daring to come out into the open and face me and carry on the smear campaign on the sly.

I have to get them out into the open; I am on the job.
