"pottan" in malayalam is a rather derogatory term for the deaf and dumb ( it can also mean a member of the "intelligentsia").
if it is a derogatory term why am i using it?
well, i dont mean any offence to the deaf and dumb for i am using the term to refer to a particular group of the "intelligentsia". like the deaf and dumb these characters also use sign language in their effort to communicate.
but the analogy ends there for these bipeds are quite capable of speech. they use sign language in an effort to communicate with me.

why do these bipeds want to communicate with me ?
the idea is to get noticed, for they themselves are aware that they don't matter and desperately want to be in the lime light - the analogy is streaking that was popular especially in the western countries some time back.
pottans galore
i came back from trivandrum yesterday by an evening train and there were a large number of pottans in the unreserved second class compartment making desperate attempts to get noticed.
well; for my part i ensure that i do not notice them at all and the face never gets registered in my mind. - i can assure you i wont be able to recognize even one of them if i see them again. i wouldn't want to have anything to do with trash ( trash (AmE, informal) an offensive word used to describe people that you do not respect - says the genie, oxford dictionary of current english)
but i do have a problem there.

the problem
after i got out of the train at ernakulam i found that the earphones of my iPod were missing. last time i had used it was in the train compartment where i had the pottans for company. so went back to the compartment and mopped up the area where i was sitting -. it was no where to be seen.
now suppose you drop a thing in the train compartment, the normal thing is that whomsoever finds it will return it to you. but this happens only when you have civilized human beings for company and not when you are surrounded by pottans.
the pottans are habitual cheats; cheating has been in their blood for generations and has got imprinted in their genes - and that is why many of them end up in the pakkichi police - absolutely no scruples.the earphones obviously has already reached the HQ of the pakkichi police in pattom thiruvananthappuram . ( now if you want to disprove me you can hand it back to me and i might even issue an apology - so how about it ? )

i had put the earphones in a small leather pouch that was too small to accommodate both the ipod and the earphones and had kept the ipod separately and it was the pouch that was missing.
so i still have the ipod with me but will have to shed out a few thousands to get the earphones - it is an original steve jobs thing. i checked up apple's website and the price of the headphones, (apple ipod headphones )comes to Rs.1700/-

now mr. pottan, you never have seen an ipod. what do you do with the headphones alone? use it as anal plug ?
PS. the power supply was cut off exactly at 1300 hrs and was switched on at1400 hrs - that is the lunch interval of the gestapi. the sky is overcast and there is torrents of rain.
