                20110709: 2000GMT : today or rather tonight, was special – epoch making may be a bit of an exaggeration. For once after more than a month I cooked at home; and 
              the most significant fact was that I was cooking in a place solely owned by me. I had a cup of home brewed tea and a fried egg, all cooked in my own place by myself – a big leap for a poor man!

             It is all in shambles right now with me sleeping in a room full of things thrown around. But things are improving day by day with me putting in a bit of effort daily and trying to bring a semblance of order of sorts as far as possible with the extremely limited space. i am making an effort at expansion with a bit of tentage – petite lily and bullet already have a shelter of sorts with silpaulin sheets.

            I am habituated to drinking tea, strong tea at it, and all through the last one month was pining for it. Today in the evening I had a brain wave and drove to trivandrum city, purchased a kerosene oil stove, procured a couple of litres of kerosene oil at rs.40 per litre  kerosene oil is rationed over here and is supposed to be available at the ration shops only run by the government. I do not have a ration card and the purchase I made I am afraid was not from legal sources and I have paid more than twice the price at ration shops. But I did not have much of a choice there and back home made a small fire place on the land owned by me and got started immediately.

                       As you see in the picture the temporary accommodation is made of highly inflammable material except perhaps for the walls and the fire hazard is real big. So, I have made a fire place at a distance out in the open and am going to cook over there. It is extremely windy over here and I had to make an enclosure from the left over bricks purchased for building the temporary shelter in order to prevent the flame from being blown out.

It is a typical camp site sort of affair!
remniscent of the long field service days of my short service years.

I thoroughly enjoyed the fare; it was a very good beginning.

                   The problem here is that 

               a. the power supply over here is of exceptionally low voltage and there is no question of my microwave oven working – even the fridge refuses to get switched on and that in spite of a voltage stablizer. If the claims of the voltge stablizer manufacturer ( it is suposed to get switched on if the voltage is above 130 ) is right the power supply over here is less than 130 volts while the supposed to be voltage is 240 – 250! and 

                 b.  I cannot get my cooking gas connection without a residence certificate  I am on the job and things are working out right and I hope to get the gas connection in a couple of weeks time.
              
                 So, the nutan kerosene oil wick stove, manufactured in neighbouring tamilnadu, I find, is a very good investment for the time being; thanks to it, the bouts of diarrhoea and the flatulence and such are going to be a thing of the past.

yes,  i have already got an electricity connection;

and that was quite some time back!

added 20110711

I reached back after a jaunt in the city by past 8pm to find that the power supply was not there, not only for me but those in the neighbouring houses as well. However the opposite hill is well lit up – that is where the pakkichi police is plonking themselves and are making the pbirds run their sorties There is nothing remarkable in a short power failure; but today even now, that is even after midnight the power supply has not been restored and I am carrying on with the net book on batteries and the emergency lamp I had purchased doing a good job lighting up thae whole of the small hillock brillintly – it uses LEDs and can carry on for forty hours if you put it at the minimum possible number of LEDs.

could it be that the reason is the picture of my camp site above with the lights on ? !

incidentally as i was typing this in the usb key board started malfunctioning and i am having a difficult time.


by the way, bad news for my "NoK"; it looks my health is improving. i have started enjoying my evening dose of poison again; one large - that is all And the amorous exertions are becoming more and more frequent even within the confines of this small room - dont tell any body. i think i can do with some protectives - one of the vessels below the corona got injured and there was some bleeding.
